When I began installing solar almost two years ago, it was such a magical technology in my eyes. Put a solar panel in the sun, connect it to a load, and voila- Power! Although there are many more steps we take to assure a safe, strong, and reliable renewable energy source, the bottom line remains: sunlight can be converted into electricity! Pretty magical!
That is one of the reasons why I love installing solar. Before solar work, I worked in residential construction. I worked on many beautiful stick-frame and straw-bale houses from foundation to finish paint. I also worked on lots of old decrepit remodels and renovations, and although I learned a lot about problem solving and working with what you have, it can be frustrating when new materials don’t fit or match up with an existing structure. With solar installations, all of the parts and pieces have their places. Every bolt has a matching washer and nut. Every solar panel and junction box has corresponding wires that are sized to carry a specific amount of energy. There is a highly calculated standard, and it takes the guess work out of the equation. I really appreciate that.
Another reason solar work is so fulfilling to me, is that we make our clients solar dreams a reality! It’s a great feeling to commission a solar system, to activate the flow of clean, renewable energy into someone’s house and life. And to know that the solar array and inverter, with their absence of moving parts, will perform efficiently and maintenance-free for many years to come.
It’s great to meet so many new customers and get to work on so many lovely homes. I’m honored to work with such a great team, in a trade that I believe makes the world a healthier place. The only drawback that I can think of is how darned hot it gets up on the roof in the middle of summer, but the views sure are splendid!
